That's what I did with mine. Worked fine.
Yes. Shut the server down first, make a backup, then copy the world folder over.
Make sure nobody is connected during the transfer.
Does it keep player inventories too?
If you're moving the complete world folder, yes, assuming the player data is in that save.
I'd still have everyone log in once after the move to make sure everything looks right.
